Culling is the selective removal of presumably inferior deer in order to improve the quality of the remaining population. Among whitetails, the culling harvest strategy generally involves targeting those bucks with inferior antlers for removal to improve overall antler quality of those left to do the breeding and for harvest at an older age. Great for first time hunters!

Hunters consider the Axis to be among the most beautiful trophy deer in the world.  The Axis is easily as elegant as the White-tailed or Fallow Deer and easily distinguishable from both. Texas hunters also love the tenderness and flavor of Axis meat and stock their freezer with venison all year. 

 A large population of Fallow deer also inhabit Double M Ranch. They come in several color varieties such as: chocolate, white, and menil which is rusty with spots. These animals tend to prefer forest-edge habitat. They are frequently spotted during safari hunts and at feeders located near surrounding tree cover. Bucks are in hard antler mid-to-late August until late April with rut occurring between September and February. Big-bodied males weigh up to 260 pounds and females weigh up to 110 pound

Native to India and Pakistan, the Blackbuck is a medium sized antelope with distinctive spiral horns that are ringed with 1 to 4 spiral turns and can be as long as 28 inches. A trophy Blackbuck has horns that are 18+ inches and in Texas they rarely get much longer than 21-22 inches. The male’s upper body is dark brown and appears black during the breeding season turning to a much lighter brown when not in the rut. Blackbucks usually roam in herds of 15 to 20 animals with a dominant male. 

There are very few species as majestic-looking as the mighty Elk.  This massive deer is the second largest in the world and has antlers that can grow to more than four feet long!  Elks provide a very challenging and exciting hunt that is sure to get your heart racing and your adrenaline pumping!  Elk hunters enjoy a quality Texas hunting experience with good opportunities for harvesting a nice bull elk.  Our Texas elk hunters have enjoyed nearly 100% success, year after year. 

 Elk is commonly considered among hunters to be one of the best wild-game meats. It’s similar to venison, but is usually leaner and has little-to-no gamey flavor. These hunts are ideal for someone that wants to get some very healthy and delicious meat that can be used like beef in almost any recipe imaginable.
